Indie Spotlight: Your Doodles Are Bugged!

Your Doodles Are Bugged is an Xbox Live Arcade indie game developed by Spyn Doctor. Your task is to move tiny bugs from one side of a map to the other with a pen. The early levels begin with a tutorial and show you how to create paths with the pen. What’s unique about drawing a bug’s paths is the ability to use the doodles, which are scattered all over the map, as extra paths to your destination. This is helpful because your pen is limited to a certain amount of ink, which you can replenish by deleting your previous paths; thus, the art design becomes more vibrant and colorful as the levels progress. This also creates challenging and replayable levels because the doodles create numerous ways to finish each level. There is a demo available, but for only 80 Microsoft points or $1, this game is worth the purchase.

Indie Spotlight: Autumn Dynasty

Autumn Dynasty
is a real-time strategy game set in a war-torn old Orient. You use a calligraphy paintbrush to order your units around the battlefield, hiding them in forests to surprise your enemies or around a mountain pass to outflank them. The art style resembles a 221 B.C Chinese painting, where everything is drawn in black or colored ink. The game is in its early builds, which means the gameplay is simple, unbalanced, and limited to AI skirmishes. With future releases planned, we see a lot of potential for a unique and fun RTS.

Indie Spotlight: Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead

Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead is a de-make of’wait for it’Left 4 Dead. The game has a top-down view, giving it that old-school Nintendo feel. Starting out, you can choose any one of the four characters from Left 4 Dead 2 and two weapons. The enemies are simple charging zombies at first, but as you progress, you encounter new enemies that vomit sludge or attempt to steal the life out of you. To counter these aggressive foes are the upgraded and new weapons that you choose from during that last bits of each level or at save points through-out the game. This game is fun, quick, and easy to download; no installation required. You can download this game and many others at the GameSpot Downloads page.

Indie Spotlight: Igneous

Igneous is one of those indie games that excite you and make you jump for joy knowing that a visually stunning, simple, and fun-to-play game can be created by students. You play as a rolling tiki totem trying to escape an erupting volcano. The controls are simple and best played with an Xbox 360 controller because all you do is control your tiki totem to its linear destination. There’s not much room for exploration since lava, rock, and many other things chase you from all directions.

The visuals are stunning, and the detail of rock and lava are superb, as is the huge laser shooting tiki head toward the end of the game. There are two difficulty levels: normal and impossible. The normal level is easy and fun for your first time, but the impossible level is where the gameplay and visuals really pop.

If this game is any indication of where indie games are headed, then the direction is bright and sunny. To download this game and many others, go to the GameSpot Downloads Page.
